Scott AFB
The primary mission of Scott Air Force Base is global mobility. The base commands and controls all logistics of United States military in air, over land and across the sea. Team Scott sets policies and executes all air mobility operations. The installation is responsible for providing United States aeromedical evacuation capabilities, fly operational support airlift in the C-21, and air refueling missions in the KC-135. Scott Air Force Base supplies forces to theater combatant commanders.
Belleville, IL
Belleville is a growing community that has a diverse economy with major banks, manufacturing, medical centers and agribusiness.
The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, founded in 1958 by Fr. Edwin J. Guild, OMI, is located on Route 15 at Route 157 in Belleville, east of St. Louis. The 2,400 seats and grassy slopes at the Shrine's Amphitheatre can accommodate large crowds for special events. The Millennium Spire, an 85 foot tall stainless steel sculpture, rises out of a Candelarium built into a hillside above the Shrine's Amphitheatre.
Belleville is west of Scott Air Force Base, home to the 375th Airlift Wing. The base covers almost 4,000 acres is made up by the Air Force's Air Mobility Command, the Army's Military Traffic Management Command and the Navy's Military Sealift Command. Other commands include the Air Force Command, Control, Communications and Computer Agency and the Air Weather Service.
Belleville abounds with festivals, bicycling along the Greenway Trail, sports at the Family Sportsplex, and events at the Belle Clair Fairgrounds. Shopping malls, boutiques and antique stores are located in the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods. Many cafes and dining establishments are popular with the locals.
