Kingsland, GA

Nestled between marshes, rivers, and ocean, Kingsland, Georgia, has had a prime spot on Georgia's Colonial Coast since before America was a nation. The land now known as Kingsland was once owned by King George II of England. Some 53 years after Georgia was granted its charter, another King, John King, became the largest land owner in the area. His property at Cherry Point is now part of the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base.

The city itself dates back to 1894, when the Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad, today's CSX Railroad, cut its route through lands that were King family property.

After the railroad was built, John King's great-grandson, William Henry King, mapped out the town to be located on his property and named in his honor. He became the first mayor when the City of Kingsland was incorporated in 1908. Both Kingsland and Camden County experienced immense growth during the 1970s, due to the buildup of the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base. And the city hasn't stopped growing. The population has increased 300% since 1990 and now includes 15,000 residents.

Due to the city's prime location, many government offices, the county library, Camden County High School, and the county's consolidated recreational services are all located in Kingsland. Kingsland prides itself on having a small town atmosphere with larger city amenities.

Big city entertainment and events plus miles of popular beaches are only 30 miles away from Kingsland in Jacksonville. Only 30 minutes to the north, Brunswick and the Golden Isles give visitors several islands and plenty of hard-packed sand beaches to choose from.
