Salt Lake City, UT
The city is considered one of the most historically important cities in the Western United States. Founded in 1847 by a group of Latter-day Saints led by their religious leader, Brigham Young, Salt Lake City is among the region's oldest cities and is the location of the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During the 1857 Utah War the city became the first major American city to be declared in rebellion by the federal government of the United States and subsequently invaded. Mining and the railroad have brought economic growth, and the city became known as the Crossroads of the West. In modern times, the city hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics and has developed a strong tourism industry.
